Climate change is a pressing issue.
Japan is not the only country experiencing extreme heat and disasters caused by extreme weather.
The world is facing a lack of safe water.
A lack of safe water is not uncommon even in countries with sufficient water sources.
Pacific Island countries are facing serious water shortages.
These countries, severely affected by climate change, may be a preview of our future.
We act now to shape the future.
We set up the Shape the Future Project for the DC10 Fund and call for action
to help ensure that all children in the Pacific Islands can have hope for the future.

Dan Carter, a former New Zealand All Black with many outstanding career accomplishments, has been a UNICEF New Zealand ambassador since 2022.
Since retiring from rugby, he launched the DC10 Fund with the vision to enable children to live to their full potential with the freedom to unleash their dreams and simply play.
For Dan, this starts with children having the basics – like clean water and sanitation. The DC10 Fund in partnership with UNICEF has created a vehicle in which children in the Pacific, can benefit from the sustainable and life changing work of providing water, sanitation and hygiene solutions.
In Pacific Islands, UNICEF delivers essential supplies to schools and health care facilities, to provide for children and their families in the some of the most hardest-to-reach areas.
We echo Dan’s vision and mission and will work with him to support children in our region to thrive.
In this project, children and youth from all over the world come together to take action on climate change issues, and through a variety of activities, they send out a message and call for cooperation from supporters.

Before anything else, I would like to express my heartfelt gratitude for the opportunity to serve as the project leader for the DC10 Fund. It is truly an honor. This initiative addresses critical challenges faced by children in vulnerable regions, particularly those affected by climate change and water shortages. By providing access to clean water, sanitation, and education, we are laying the foundation for brighter futures.
As a member of the generation that will witness the long-term outcomes of today’s decisions, I feel both a profound sense of responsibility and immense optimism about what we can achieve together. I am deeply grateful for the unwavering support of our donors, partners, and advocates.
I also want to express my appreciation for Dan Carter, whose dedication and leadership have been instrumental in making this initiative a reality.
Together, as a community, we are ensuring that every child has the opportunity to thrive and live a life filled with hope.

As a member of the future generation, I am truly honored to be part of this program. In light of the environmental turmoil around the world today, I feel a deep sense of responsibility toward the urgent issues affecting our planet, particularly the protection of our most vulnerable—children.
As an environmentalist and disaster relief and reconstruction volunteer, I hope to contribute to UNICEF's efforts to create lasting, positive changes for children, understanding that the challenges we face today will shape the world children inherit tomorrow. Together, I hope to create a world where every child has the opportunity to grow up in a safe, secure, and sustainable environment.

In October 2024, we had an opportunity to talk with Dan and hear about his thoughts on the DC10 Fund and his expectations for our generation. Also, with the cooperation of our partners, we hosted a charity dinner with Dan as a special guest and asked for support for the project.

The challenges we face today, such as climate change, widening inequality, and issues in education and welfare, are themes that the international community must address together. Extending support that brings hope to the next generation of children is essential. The DC10 FUND project represents a significant step toward realizing such support, and I believe it will serve as a powerful force in creating a future where children can learn and grow equally. I wholeheartedly support this initiative and look forward to building a future full of hope together.

The coming generations, who will be greatly affected by climate change, have decided to take action on this issue. And so they launched the “Shape the Future Project for DC10 Fund” for children of their generation living in the Pacific Islands.
In taking on this long-term, far-reaching problem, the project members decided to pursue one specific outcome through the DC10 Fund. The attitude of thinking about what one should do and what one can do in cooperation with one's peers leads to pioneering the future, as the name of the project implies. With high hopes for the members of the project to succeed, we have established a committee to support them, and we ourselves will cooperate with them.
Dan Carter is a great role model for us. He has been called “the greatest rugby player of all time” and is now a philanthropist sharing positive messages to the world. We would like to take this opportunity to thank Dan for letting the members learn directly from him.
Dan Carter and the project members have taken action for the future. We ask for your support for the project and invite you to join their efforts.

To shape the future, act now.
Water and sanitation are major issues in children's lives.
Dirty water and unsanitary conditions can lead to infectious diseases
and often kill young children through diarrhea and other illnesses.
UNICEF helps improve access to safe drinking water and proper sanitation,
promotes hand washing and hygienic practices, and eliminates open defecation.
Supporting water and sanitation is not just about improving lives,
it is about giving children the opportunity to grow up healthy,
get an education, and have a brighter future.
Together with you, UNICEF and the DC10 Fund will reach 134,000 students, 859 schools and 38 health-care facilities with clean water, sanitation interventions and better hygiene practices across the Pacific.

Emergency relief for natural disasters
In islands with limited capacity to cope with increasing cyclones and storm surges, UNICEF supports the procure of emergency supplies, the securing of water and sewage facilities, and the resumption of health services.
